Time to pay homage to Sybil’s great teachers whose generosity and sharing lives on: Martin Bloch, German Expressionist, Irina Schestokowich, Print Maker and Constance Howard, Fiber Artist. Without their guidance and inspiration Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre would just be a figment of Sybil’s imagination.
The Art Studio that overlooks the source of Joshua Creek was built in 1976, it has been filled with happy artists ever since. The first exhibitions were held in the upstairs and downstairs of the 1827 Farmhouse. In 2007 Sybil transformed the 1827 Heritage barn into a stunning gallery and held the opening exhibition in 2008. It is a joyous environment where emerging artists have the opportunity to see their work being showcased. Many of these artists have had successful careers and hundreds of their paintings are decorating homes and treasured by descendants.
Recently we have been teaching three to four times a week. Our greatest delight happens on Mondays with seven special students from Community Living Oakville. Wednesdays we share our new medium of Watercolour Printmaking for all ages and stages. Friday is for our graduates, a core group of accomplished artists. Saturdays we offer single workshops.
COVID-19 is proving to be a challenge. For the first time Joshua Creek is joining the Virtual Reality world! We now have the opportunity to share Joshua Creeks exhibitions with a larger audience. We invite visitors from all over the world to see the gallery, to be inspired and share the work of our artists.
